I've always felt drawn to handmade ceramics. Growing up, it was such a treat when we went out to eat at small, quaint Japanese restaurants with my family; my mom and I would ooh and ah at both the food and the plates themselves. I remember helping her pick out a unique cup from a tray of sake cups, studying the thoughtfully formed chopstick holders, and admiring the little side plates scattered across the table.
In 2017, I took my first ceramics class in New York City -- really as a form of self care. I became obsessed. So much could go wrong at any step, but I loved being able to use my hands and saw progress the more I utilized the studio and practiced outside of class.
Now seven years into my practice, I primarily create functional wheel-thrown work that is meant to add a special something to any meal or to one’s daily environment -- how I always felt at those Japanese spots and countless restaurants and homes since then. With so much inspiration around me, from fellow artists at my community studios and beyond, I’m constantly coming across new techniques and exploring atmospheric firings like wood and pit firing. There is still so much to learn, to fail, and to experiment... it's endlessly exciting.
Thank you for taking a look here at my site, and for learning a little about me and my work! Nothing brings me greater joy than seeing my ceramics in use and taken care of every day. Feel free to reach out at any time via email or on Instagram -- I’d love to hear from you!
